Welcome to the Fourth Grade Homepage!!
Welcome Parents!
Thank you for taking the time to check out our class website. You will find all the information you will need about our classrooms including homework, upcoming events, and copies of some assignments. We will try to update the website at least once a week.
To navigate through our website, use the links above. The "About Mrs. Hudson" link takes you to this page that you are on right now. You will find information on upcoming events on this page. In addition, you will find the mission statements and class goal.
On the "Important Dates & Events" link you will find a list of upcoming days off, tests, early release days, etc. If you click on the "Homework" link, it will take you to a page that lists all of the homework for the week. The "Daily Schedule" link takes you to the page that lists our daily schedule plus the specials schedule for our class.
The "Copies of Important Documents" link will take you to the page that contains any documents that can be downloaded onto your computer. If you would like to check out the supply list during the year you can click on that link.
Hover your mouse over the "More" link and you will get a short drop down menu. One of the links that drops down is the "Policies & Procedures" link. There you will find a downloadable copy of the ABC's of 4th Grade along with any other information that is related to policy and procedure in 4th grade. The second link listed is the "Important Links" link. This will take you to a list of websites that both parents and students can access. It has everything from the PowerSchools website and links to Common Core to games and activities for students to play. Check it out when you have some time. The third link on the list is "4th Grade contacts". If you would like to get in contact with either Mrs. Hudson or Mrs. Von Tobel head to this link. You can find our email, phone number, and website information.
This Week:
Monday (19)............Talent Show (school show: 1:30; evening show: 6:30)
Tuesday (20)............Honors' Assembly 2:15
Wednesday (21).......6th grade vs. Teachers volleyball game 9:30
Thursday (22)...........Last Day of School; Dismissal 12:05;

Last Week of School:
We have finally made it! There are just a few more days until summer vacation. Please remind your child to return any item from Mountain Shadows that they may be borrowing, such as library books, scissors, classroom library books, etc. The librarian will be sending home letters if your child has overdue library books. On Thursday, students may NOT bring cameras OR backpacks to school. We will hand out report cards on this day. Please talk to your child about whether or not they will be eating in the cafeteria so we can let the manager know.
Hudson Class Party:
Our class party will start right after announcements at 8:55 and run until about 10:20. At that time I am still undecided about the activity. We will then go to lunch from 11:20-11:40.
Summer Practice:
If you would like to practice math skills you can check out websites such as: www.commoncoresheets.com; www.math-aids.com; www.mathdrills.com; and www.mathisfun.com. It is important that students keep up on the skills they learned in 4th grade. Try to get children involved with recipes, planning a trip, or researching a place you'll be visiting. Anything to keep them thinking and using their brains! :) Writing about a trip or even their weekend can keep their writing skills refreshed, too!
Math Facts: I have attached a file on the "Copies of Important Documents" page of our website. This file has rules for multiplication tables such as: for 2's you just double the number you are multiplying by. So 2 x 8 would be 8 + 8. It only goes up to 10's but at least it can help with a majority of the multiplication facts.
Spelling Tests:
After much consideration, Mrs. von Tobel has decided there will be another change to Spelling. For the next several weeks, the spelling lists will consist of prefixes, suffixes, or roots and their meanings plus a spelling word for each. Students are required to know the meaning of these affixes in order to unlock the meaning of new words. Students will be graded on the meaning of the affix AND the spelling word that accompanies it.
New Policy Alert:
To ensure your children's safety, we will require you to leave your photo ID in the office in exchange for a visitors badge. When you sign out, you will receive your photo ID. This will start on Monday, January 6th.
This week
Math: We will review of the Angles test which is Wednesday. The students will complete a study guide.
Science: This week students will create an invention that solves a problem. They will write about their invention and create an advertisement. This will be the final grade.
Social Studies:
ELA (English/Lang. Arts): District Testing.
Writing: District Testing.
New Behavior Cards
Students earn positive statements for positive behavior or infractions for not so positive behavior. At the end of the quarter, students will participate in the Quarterly Reward IF they have no D's and F's, more positives than infractions, and no suspensions. Students will earn infractions if their card is lost and/or torn up. They will also receive an infraction if they are caught doodling/drawing on their card.
Fourth Quarter Schedule:
Each quarter students will be rotating through a slightly different specials schedule. Please dress accordingly on PE days. For 4th quarter our schedule is as stated below:

A little background information on Mrs. Hudson:
I am excited to start my 14th year of teaching! For the past 10 years I have been a proud member of the Mountain Shadows Coyotes Staff. All of my 14 years have been in 4th grade and in the Deer Valley district. I am actually a product of the Deer Valley district as I attended Bellair, Desert Sky, and Deer Valley High School. I feel honored to teach in the district where I grew up. After high school I went to Glendale Community College and then transferred to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ to graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. In May of 2008 I received my Master's in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement from Northern Arizona University.
Some of my hobbies include reading, shopping, and dancing. I have been married to my husband Scott for 8 years. My husband and I do not have any children but our pets sure keep us busy and we absolutely love them! Our oldest is a black lab named Sedona. She is about 8.5 years old. Our other dog is a bichon frise named Chloe. She is 4 years old now.
A little background information on Mrs. von Tobel
Hi! My name is Mrs. von Tobel and I will be your child’s teacher for Language Arts, and Social Studies. This is my 13th year of teaching. I taught third grade for 12 years at Desert Heights Charter School
in Glendale before moving to the Deer Valley School District. I am a graduate from Arizona State University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in December of 2000. I was born, raised, and educated in Brownsville, Texas, “a city on the border by the sea”, next to South Padre
Island. I moved to Arizona in 1989. I am married and have a daughter who graduated from the University of Arizona last May. We have two adorable Shih-Tzu/Poodle dogs, Bubba (4yrs) and Sully (2yrs). My husband and I have a passion for the outdoors. As a family we enjoy hiking, camping, boating, traveling, and many outdoor activities. I am excited to be teaching fourth grade
and look forward to a successful year at Mountain Shadows.
